There is a lot of connection between children suffering abuse and parents drinking alcohol. Alcohol is a major factor in cases of child abuse and two out of five such parents are alcoholics.
Parental alcohol abuse is linked with either sexual or physical abuse of the children. This abuse is thus a difficult thing to handle if the parents are alcoholic. Physical abuse results in bruises, cuts, fractures, and burns. Sexual abuse includes all actions from touching without permission to rape. Children find it traumatic to live with a parent who is alcoholic, which often leads to neglect. Alcoholic parents generally have impaired judgment. Usually parents have a tendency to take out their frustration on their children when they are addicted to alcohol. The child is physically abused and such children generally get beaten up by their parents. Drunken parents tend to abuse their children sexually or they are so drunk that they might not be in a condition to prevent any inadvertent situation in their life.
Such parents who are alcoholic generally neglect household chores and they vent out their frustration on their children by spanking them. Thus, the children are victims of child abuse and are unable to avoid the situation. All abuse that children suffer with alcoholic parents is accompanied by lack of medical attentions, clothing, and shelter. When the children are under emotional abuse they generally do not know what to do. Drunken parents also tend to neglect their children to the extent that they forget to teach the children values and discipline and also are unable to nurture their childhood well.
Efforts have to be made that the children are not subjected to child abuse due to the presence of alcoholic parents who tend to disrupt not only the household but also the child’s life.
